My Story

Josefa began her musical journey at age 6 at the Malta School of Music (formerly Johann Strauss School of Music), where she also commenced clarinet studies under the direction of Godfrey Mifsud at age 7. Throughout her studies, she performed regularly with the school’s Clarinet Ensemble, Orchestra, Wind Band, and various chamber groups. She successfully completed her course in 2020, earning a Diploma II.

Josefa has participated in numerous masterclasses and festivals both locally and abroad, including the Victoria International Arts Festival (2012–2014, 2018), Aberystwyth Musicfest (2015–2017), and the Saxophone and Clarinet Festival (2015, 2016). She has also taken part in the Modern Composers Festival (2016), The Maltese Islands Festival (1st place in 2017 and 2019), and The Ancient Clarinet Festival (2019). In 2015, Josefa won the New Names Malta competition and was invited to perform in Cologne. She later appeared in the Debutants Concert during the 2018 Victoria International Arts Festival, earning high praise for her performance. That same year, she placed first in her category at the Charles Camilleri National Music Festival Competition, receiving a scholarship to the Summer Music Academy in Vienna (2019).

Her professional development has been enriched through work with celebrated clarinetists such as David Campbell, Fabrizio Meloni, Giuseppe Recchia, Riccardo Crocilla, and Reinhard Wieser, among others. Between 2016 and 2021, she was a member of the Malta Youth Orchestra, performing under the direction of internationally acclaimed conductors like Peter Stark, Sergey Smbatyan, and Darell Ang. In 2018, she also joined the Stoneleigh Youth Orchestra on their tour to Prague.

In January 2024, Josefa was invited to perform at the prestigious inaugural reception marking Malta’s 2024 Chairpersonship of the OSCE Permanent Council, held at the Wien Welt Museum in Vienna.

Josefa holds an A.L.C.M. diploma in Clarinet Performance and achieved a distinction in Grade 8 Theory of Music. Alongside her musical career, she has also pursued academic excellence in law, recently earning her postgraduate Master of Advocacy degree and qualifying as a lawyer.
